The trementinaires
Women from the Valley who were dedicated to collecting medicinal herbs provided by the surrounding environment, which they would later sell. They also made their own products, such as trementina (turpentine), which was highly important, and that’s where their name comes from. Today, all the information can be found at the Trementinaires Museum in Tuixent.
Land of the Cathars
In Josa de Cadí, you’ll find an impressive history of its Cathar past. Its church, which was once the castle of Ramón de Josa, served as a refuge for those persecuted during the Inquisition, a sacred space where faith and resistance remained alive despite the repression. Nowadays, between the months of July and August, a commemorative day is held to pay tribute to this Cathar legacy.
